MARK L. RICHARDSON, CPA, CIRA, is the firm's shareholder and a Certified Public Accountant. During his thirty-five year professional career, he has practiced in the areas of assurance, tax, litigation support, bankruptcy and corporate transaction services. Specifically, his experience includes thirteen years practicing while at "Big 4" firms, and twenty two years practicing in smaller, regional firms. Mr. Richardson's public accounting experience includes:
- Accounting and audit services including the audit of financial statements of numerous companies, both publicly-traded and privately-held. Mr. Richardson's audit clients have included heavy and light manufacturing companies (specialty chemicals, construction products, high-tech, defense and governmental contractors), financial services companies (banking, mutual funds, benefit plans, real estate investment, asset management and leasing), health care companies, non-profit organizations and those in the governmental sector. Mr. Richardson has also assisted clients on audit related engagements including the review of internal controls, reports on systems design, agreed-upon procedures reports, financial forecasts and reports on the application of accounting principles.
- Tax services including tax compliance, advisory and representation services in front of various taxing authorities. Mr. Richardson has assisted a variety of domestic and international clients including corporations, partnerships, exempt organizations, individuals, trusts and estates. He has prepared numerous tax returns and has advised clients on a wide range of tax and tax planning opportunities.
- Litigation support and expert testimony services including providing assistance to counsel and their clients in a variety of commercial litigation and arbitration matters. Mr. Richardson has advised clients in fiduciary liability matters, securities actions, accounting malpractice claims, breach of contract matters, preference actions and fraudulent conveyance claims, patent infringement and intellectual property disputes, royalty disputes, purchase price and earn-out disputes, business interruption claims, wrongful termination claims, dissenting shareholder actions, numerous damage computations, as well as forensic accounting matters.
- Corporate recovery and bankruptcy services including assistance to debtors, creditors and their counsel involved with troubled companies in bankruptcy and out-of-court restructurings. Mr. Richardson has provided restructuring advisory services to both public and non-public entities, and such services have included financial, accounting and tax advice, as well as litigation support services.
- Transaction services including advising clients involved in acquisitions, divestitures, financings and other corporate repositioning. Mr. Richardson has provided advice on a wide variety of financial, accounting, tax and operational matters pertinent to such transactions. Such engagements have included assistance with business plans; the targeting, valuation, due diligence and post-integration of acquisitions; preparation of confidential information memorandums and due diligence packages for raising capital or seeking an acquirer; as well as assessments of optimal capital structures and refinancing alternatives.
Mr. Richardson graduated magna cum laude from Babson College in 1987 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Accounting and Management Information Systems. Mr. Richardson is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Insolvency and Reorganization Accountant (CIRA). Mr. Richardson has a certificate of achievement in business valuation from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and was an editorial adviser for the AICPA's Journal of Accountancy. Mr. Richardson is a member in a number of professional organizations including the AICPA, the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants and its committee on valuation and litigation support, the Boston Bar Association and the Association of Restructuring and Insolvency Advisors.
